A not-so-common dining commons

Episcopal School of Dallas

A highlight of ESD’s new 114,000 SF Stephen B. Swann Athletic and Wellness Center is its cutting-edge dining commons. The new dining commons provides a 480-seat dining room overlooking a spring-fed quarry, an innovative kitchen and meal serving area, as well as offices for school auxiliary services. The kitchen has been designed to serve as a “laboratory” where students and parents can learn from nutritional experts and professional chefs. Nutrition based curriculum will continue to be integrated into the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools, under the guidance of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Texas Southwest Medical Center and the ESD Nutrition Curriculum Committee. The ultimate goal is to influence the community long after they graduate.

The center also includes a competitive gymnasium, an indoor running track, strength, conditioning and cardio workout rooms, sports medicine facilities, a dance studio, expanded locker rooms, a team room and coaching offices, as well as a campus bookstore, concessions and equipment storage areas.
