As part of RIT’s outreach to other countries, the new Global Village offers apartment-style housing for students from overseas as well as students participating in international Co-op programs. To encourage on-campus student housing, ARC chose a “hospitality style” aesthetic for the interior finishes versus a more conventional institutional approach. Wood canopies over each suite entry create a “front porch” and a sense of home for students. Integrated lighting illuminates cut-out room numbers and photo panels identifying each suite. A variety of interior finishes and furnishings were selected to reinforce regional themes of four cultures (South America – Asia – Eastern Europe – Middle East.) Large scale photo murals are featured throughout the buildings not only showcasing images from around the world but also recognizing the University’s nationally renowned photography program.
