Town of Winchendon, Winchendon, MA /  Murdock Middle/High School

Completed:

1995

Size:

165,000 SF

Reminiscent of the town's early mill buildings, cupola-topped twin towers rise above Winchendon, Massachusetts, where residential neighborhoods give way to farmland. In a single structure, the Middle School and High School maintain distinct identities with separate entrances and instructional spaces, while capitalizing on the efficiency of a shared gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria and library.

"Our charge to ARC was to capture the history and essence of Winchendon in a new 1,000 student building. The results speak for themselves – majestic, charismatic, functional, exciting, inspiring."

Richard J. Robinson, Chairman, Winchendon School Building Committee
