Construction is nearing the midpoint at the Walter C. Johnson Center for Health and Wellness at Hackley School in Tarrytown, New York. The 115,000 SF complex will be completed for the winter of 2017-18 and will include an eight-lane pool, eight-court squash center, two gymnasiums, a wrestling room, fencing room, fitness center, and weight training room. The building will also include multiple classrooms and exercise studios to serve as wellness teaching spaces.

The early phases of construction included a long process of carefully setting the concrete foundations into the rocky, steep hillsides of the surrounding woodland landscape. Now, most of the steel framing is in place on the east side venues, along with the beginnings of the exterior cladding. Steel is also in being installed for the west side venues – including the fitness center room with a view to the campus to the south.

The indoor and outdoor spaces of this major addition to the Hackley School campus will begin to take shape over the spring and summer. When the Center is complete, it will include a series of elegant landscaped courtyards connecting the major venues – and also forming a dynamic new connection between the historic academic campus and the northern athletic fields. Look for more updates to come as construction progresses through the warmer months ahead!
