Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, CT /  Wieler and Garland Hall Dormitories

Completed:

1990

Size:

40,320 SF

A key component of ARC’s master plan for Hotchkiss was an analysis of the student/ faculty residences, and the development of a facilities plan consistent with the school’s Strategic Plan. One of the first projects was the renovation of Wieler Hall. ARC designed a three-story addition to house a faculty family at each level of the dormitory, improving the faculty/ student ratio and adding thirteen single rooms. The project was completed while the existing dormitory remained occupied.

Phase II of the residential portion of the master plan was the construction of a new dormitory housing 43 students and 4 faculty apartments, completing a residential quadrangle at the southwest corner of the campus. With easily customized student rooms and spacious duplex apartments for faculty families, Garland Hall offers desirable living space while providing the Hotchkiss School the flexibility to adapt to fluctuating female /male student ratios.
