Philip Laird

A field trip to Dulles Airport shortly after its opening ignited my passion for architecture. At 17, I had my first job – building models at an architect’s office.

As a principal and past president of ARC, Philip has devoted three decades to upholding the company’s reputation for client service and design excellence. Philip has designed and led projects at over 30 university, college and independent school campuses, working on academic buildings, athletic centers, performing arts facilities and student residences. Philip is committed to delivering exceptional outcomes, and invigorated by the challenge of developing design solutions that meet the unique needs and expectations of each client. A champion of sustainable design since he was a college student, Philip has led many of ARC’s LEED Platinum and LEED gold projects. 

Philip served as the Chair of the National AIA Committee on Design in 2016 and Chaired the Design Conference in Havana Cuba. In 2017, he was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows in recognition of his work with educational institutions.

Fast Fact
Outside the office, Philip is happiest when on skis – snow skiing in the winter and water skiing in the summer – or crushing it on the squash court.
