Phillips Exeter Academy Sustainability Class Tours Field House

10.06.17 / Chris Bowers, Yunbin Park, Peter Reiss, Elizabeth Musacchio

As part of our mission to design facilities for students to learn and grow, ARC/ Architectural Resources Cambridge works with our clients to develop unique learning opportunities during design and construction.

Phillips Exeter Academy (PEA), a coeducational independent school in Exeter, New Hampshire, commissioned ARC to design a new field house facility, capable of achieving LEED Gold certification. The project includes energy efficient lighting and ventilation, daylighting, and 1400 solar PV panels on the 70,000 SF roof area that produce an annual output of 660,300 kW hours, enough electricity to power 60 households per year.

As part of a PEA Sustainability Class, ARC team members led 14 students and two teachers on a tour of the facility, which is currently under construction. Students learned about LEED, campus sustainability practices, and how the field house project is contributing to the school’s energy goals.

We enjoyed the opportunity to partner with this client in creating an engaging educational experience outside the classroom. Fun was had by all!
