Construction recently started on the ARC designed 100,000 sq. ft. Worcester State Athletic Center. This building will provide the University with a new 1500 seat competition gym, a multipurpose gym, athletic administration offices, locker rooms, a trainers suite, and a two floor fitness center open to all university students and staff. In addition to the major spaces in the building are some smaller, but important, elements such as a new snack bar and lounge, a golf simulator, meeting rooms, and exercise rooms. This project not only involves the construction of the new athletic center, but also the development of a new campus quad and redesign of some of the major vehicular routes as part of the campus master plan. The goal for the building is to create a quality athletic facility while still incorporating many health and wellness elements to be used campus wide.
The old gym on campus was demolished over the summer and foundations for the new building were started in mid-September. The project is currently scheduled to be completed in summer of 2016.
