ARC/ Architectural Resources Cambridge is dedicated to designing buildings and spaces that inspire, educate and connect people. We believe that design excellence and sustainable environments should be available for any type of project, regardless of size or budget. Since the firm’s founding, many of ARC’s employees have committed their time and services to their communities through pro bono projects on their own. Recently ARC has rallied its collective expertise as a firm to assist organizations in need of support through “The 1%” program. The goal of The 1% is simple and powerful: to provide access to superior design for the public good on a pro bono basis. The program seeks to connect nonprofit organizations in need of design services with architects willing to donate their time.
Through this program, ARC provided design and planning services to the Cardinal Cushing Centers. This education and community center supports individuals with intellectual and autism spectrum disabilities of all ages and provides the opportunity to experience learning, work, social relationships, recreation, and enhanced independent living in a caring and engaging setting. In 2013 we worked with the Cardinal Cushing Centers to assess current and future program needs and generate a preliminary master plan for their Braintree campus.
In 2014, ARC will be continuing to provide pro bono architectural services to Cardinal Cushing. The non-profit organization is beginning the implementation of several projects on their Hanover campus. As part of their master plan, several program elements including classrooms, retail, employment training space, and administrative functions are slated to be located in a new “Integrated Building”. Our team is currently working with the institution to assess their program elements and space requirements in a new, sustainable building. We will work as a team to develop preliminary massing studies showing possible layouts for the building in a suitable location, a site that will both further their mission and support the pedestrian focus they are working to develop on the campus.
