Tufts’ New Student Lounge is a Hit!

ARC recently completed an interior renovation of a student lounge for the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. The new Becker Student Living Room - the lounge’s official name - now serves as a gathering space for students to socialize, study and dine.
In addition to the 1,200 SF lounge, the renovations also include upgrades to classrooms, new oversized lockers, and the main student corridor to visually expand the lounge and provide a strong connection to student study areas, also renovated by ARC last year. The project is part of ongoing renovation work at Tufts Dental School following the master plan ARC developed in 2007. The student lounge is the latest phase of the master plan that has included the award-winning 105,000 SF Vertical Expansion Initiative (VEI) project in 2010 as well as the completion of the first of three floors of Pre-doctoral Clinics in 2011, both designed by ARC. The Pre-doctoral Clinic renovation reorganized approximately 60,000 SF of treatment clinics, support space, and offices on three floors of the existing Dental School that will be phased over multiple years.
On a recent photo shoot for the new space, I got to see first-hand why the lounge is now the preferred hangout for students.
The interior design takes its cues from the recently completed Vertical Expansion project adding a fresh, clean and vibrant new image for the previously outdated facilities.
Conveniently located next to the 7th floor café, the lounge offers a variety of seating options for dining.
The lounge also provides gathering spaces for students to hang out and relax for casual meetings and conversations.
Since the lounge opened this past April, it has been an immediate hit with the students. The updated facilities have helped renew a sense of pride for the community which further supports the School's image not only for its current students but also for alumni and prospective students.
