Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA / Department of Systems Biology
The accommodation of HMS' first new department in 20 years required the phased renovation of over 38,000-square-feet of existing space. Bringing together biologists, physicists and mathematicians, the Department's various research groups utilize a combination of methodologies, including basic research and mathematical modeling, to study cell and synthetic biology with the goal of finding the molecular basis for disease and drug discovery. Flexibility demands resulting from rapid growth are met in the new facility by incorporating an open lab concept which includes moveable furnishings and easily adaptable labs.
