ARC master plan for EMD’s new biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in North Carolina was developed along a central sky lit circulation and utility spine that would allow future expansion that could double the manufacturing capacity of the facility. The central spine connected the Clean Room Manufacturing Building with the Central Utility Building, the Administrative and Quality Control Building and the Warehouse Building in a way that expansion from 200,000 SF to 322,000 SF could be accomplished without adversely affecting the plant operation. The expansion increased each of the component buildings and added a central parking garage to the site.
