Weston Athletic Field Complex Competition
Williams College, Williamstown, MA
Completed: 2011 / Size: 12 acres
The program requirements for a competition for Williams College’s Athletic Study included a lit artificial turf football/soccer field, track and field components, bleacher seating for up to 2,500 spectators, home and visiting teams’ locker rooms, coaches’ offices, concession spaces, equipment and meeting spaces, as well as parking accommodation for tailgating.
ARC’s design approach was based on several goals, the first of which was to create a unified sense of place among the various competition venues, the spectator areas, the landscape features and the surrounding town fabric. The second goal was to establish a sense of procession for both athletes and spectators to the athletic venues across the entire site. The final goal was to create a functional, yet aesthetically pleasing home for the college’s athletics programs based on sustainable architectural and landscape design.
