Genzyme Corporation, Allston, MA / Allston Landing Facility Expansion (Interiors)
A dramatic new glass curtainwall addition accommodates administrative support space for the existing Allston manufacturing facility, also designed by ARC. One of the new wing’s features is an open stairway connecting spaces on all four floors that are designed to foster informal meetings and employee interaction. Located along the building’s perimeter, system furniture for open workstations and visitor “touch down” stations is configured to provide a variety of interesting and inviting spaces for meeting and teaming areas. A neutral palette of flooring materials contrasts bold punches of color created with paint, fabric and glazing applied to systems furniture. The journey through the building culminates at the top floor cafeteria where employees and visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Charles River. The adjacent “Gallery of Hope”, a permanent installation of artwork by patients treated by the drugs manufactured on-site, provides spill-out space for receptions and events.
